On 27th March 2023 Sanjan Nagar hosted a one-day workshop on Urdu Pedagogy in the 21st Century and the implementation of the 5 Cs. Ms. Romeena connected the workshop learning with the classroom teaching practices and enriched the experience through daily life examples and individual and group activities. All participants were amazed and enthusiastic about implementing it in their classrooms.
During this workshop, some neighboring schools were also invited to share our learning journey with our fellow organizations. Ms. Romeena Kureishy has been teaching Urdu in the US since 2008. She taught at the University of Pennsylvania STARTALK Urdu Program from 2008-2014 and has been with New York University Hindi Urdu Teacher Training Institute as an Urdu Pedagogy Specialist since 2015.
Ms. Kureishy has extensive experience in curriculum and lesson development and provides teacher training to Urdu teachers in the US, and more recently in Pakistan, where since Dec 2021 she has trained over 800 Urdu and other language teachers from more than 160 schools.She has also served as an Independent Urdu Specialist for the American Councils for International Education in Washington D.C. since 2012, working on proficiency tests for Urdu language.
