Recently, Sanjan
Nagar Public Education Trust (SNPET) had the honour of hosting
the much awaited event Visions
and Harmony II, an M.F.Husain experience, which was
held at the Asif Jah Haveli on 28th November
2004. The proceeding started well on
time with Akmal Qadri, who enchanted
all and sundry by playing his best feat
the flute ‘bansari’, the
most traditional wind instrument of the
East, accompanied by tanpura, tabla and
harmonium.
The event was hosted by Anwar Maqsood
who started off with Husain’s introduction,
followed by speeches from Mueen Afzal
(Chairman) and Raza Kazim (Founder) of
SNPET. Mr. Mueen Afzal thanked all the
supporters of Sanjan Nagar Public Education
Trust that included Unilever Pakistan
Ltd, Habib Bank Ltd, Shell Pakistan Ltd,
ICI Pakistan Ltd, Citibank N.A., Pearl
Continental Hotels and other friends
who helped voluntarily.
Many renowned personalities from the
corporate, political and social worlds
graced the occasion. Through the course
of the evening the guests also treated
their eyes to Husain’s Paris
suite that was put on exhibition. The
guests were also offered to order the
reprints of Husain’s paintings
at the event.
Zehra Nigah recited from a selection
of her poems, elucidating her impressions
of Husain while Farida Khanum invoked
the magic of her voice, through ghazals
and thumris and Husain painted live
to her music.
This was followed by the art auction
of Husain’s donated painting
that was auctioned at 5 million (Indian
rupees), the proceeds of which went
to the Trust. The painting that was
done live was also put on auction as
a surprise gift for the guests and
Mr. Salman Taseer acquired by putting
the highest bid of 3.1 million.
The event was ended with a thank you
note and a lavish dinner was served
to the well deserving audience.
