March 3rd, 2010: Annual Play of
the Sanjan Nagar School held at
Ali Auditorium of Ali Institute of
Education. This year a Punjabi
play "Moongi Masoor" was
produced and performed by Sanjan
Nagar students under the direction
of Ms. Huma Safdar."Moongi Masoor" is
the outcome of the Theatre
Workshops held at Sanjan Nagar few
months back by Ms. Huma Safdar.
The Theatre and Drama Trainer,
worked with Sanjan Nagar students
on the themes of voice throw,
improvisation, music and mind
sets.
"Moongi Masoor" is a
story of two sisters who lived
together. "Masoor", the
elder sister, as by name is a hard
quarrelsome creature, apt to
disagree with everyone, while
"Moongi" the younger one
is soft and an agreeable person.
The two sisters are entirely
different in nature one is sweet,
soft, kind in nature inside and to
the world and the other is sour,
irritated, annoyed, rude and
selfish in nature and to the whole
world too.
"Moongi" as ks her
sister to go with her to visit
their poor old father who lives a
little away with his son and
daughter in law, who are busy due
to harvesting season, but "Masoor"
refuses to go in such hot sun. So
"Moongi" sets off alone
and comes back with beautiful and
precious gifts from her father and
the elements of nature whom she
helps on her way to father's home.
Masoor becomes jealous and annoyed
to see the gifts and wanted to
have more beautiful and precious
ones so she sets off to visit her
father. One by one, the sisiters
visit their father and both of
them come across with nature on
their way and meet a Berry tree,
Fire, a Stream, and a Pipal tree
respectively.
The elements were carefully
selected from nature and are
figuratively used in the play. It
left a great impact on the
audience as the storyline was very
simple, in local regional language
"Punjabi" and related to
real life issues that everyone can
relate to. Carefully selected 3
animals; humble and slow yet
consistent tortoise, fast and
proud rabbit and a little sweet
bird bringing the natural
tranquility and peace, win a great
applause.
Sanjan Nagar School Girls
performed it skillfully and in
fact were successful in developing
a connection with the audience and
kept them stay on to there seat
till the end. Play was more
attractive with the music and
choir songs in between. There were
nine songs in the play with
riddles which made it more
exciting. Students' lively
performance without mike, in
Punjabi, added in the beauty of
the play.
