Synopsis of the Play
It's a Punjabi folktale, the protagonist of the play is an ambitious and adventurous belle of countryside who encounters an imposter, but eventually outwits him and escapes unhurt. The story begins at the village-well, where girls are engaged in talking of their weddings. But, Bopo the prettiest of all stays gloomy, being orphan. Meanwhile, an imposter overhears and entices her. Crows try to convince her to refrain from Thug, Peacock sing and stop Bopo but in vain, Jackals' howls couldn't prevent her. Despite stopping of Crows, Peacocks and Jackals she doesn't listen. When she reaches the thug's house, she comes across his mother, a bald old lady. During her caging at thug's house, Bopo disdains her stay and hits a plan to knock down thug's mother. Her gentlest hit is enough to knock off the old woman for the time being. Then she dresses the thug's mother with her own clothes and makes her sit near a spinning wheel. When thug comes, being at distance cannot recognize and in rage beats her since she stays mute despite lots of his callings. Bopo stays in a friend's house for hardly a night and flees away. She takes a log with her. When in her pursuit he and his aides come, she pretends a fast asleep and hits them with log. Two of them get hit their heads. Bopo ties them together while all are faint. Bopo returns to Thug's house, picks all the gold, silver coins etc. She becomes quite rich and can marry anyone she's pleased.
